Minecraft Dungeons 2 Guide: Release, Co-op & Rewards

Minecraft Dungeons II (also written Minecraft Dungeons 2) is Mojang Studios and Double Eleven's sequel to the original dungeon crawler. It launched on 29 September 2026 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with no PS4 or Xbox One versions. Xbox Game Studios publishes it, and it was a day-one Game Pass release.

Release and platforms

The launch platforms are Windows and Steam on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch and Switch 2. Steam's own listing is Windows-only; the console versions come from the Xbox and Minecraft store pages. The standard edition is about $29.99 on Steam; the Deluxe Edition adds four hero skins, the Soul Cape, the Blub pet and DLC 1 and 2.

Choose the platform your friends already play on; cross-platform co-op is supported, but console online play still needs that platform's subscription.

Four-player co-op and cross-play

The Xbox store lists local co-op (2-4), online co-op (2-4), local multiplayer (2-4), online multiplayer (2-4) and cross-platform co-op. In practice that means couch play, online play, or a mixed session with some players on the same screen and others online.

The official launch post describes the game as playable alone or with up to four players in online or couch co-op. It does not force a full party: you can start solo and open the session later. Two players is a good first-run size for learning the Sift.

What is new in Dungeons II

The headline location is the Sift, a new dimension reached through rifts. The campaign's villains are the Illager High Council: the Prime Enchanter, the Supreme Evoker and the Grand Illusioner. Loot expands to weapons, armor, enchantments, talismans and artifacts; the official post says there is no single correct way to play, so combine drops into your own style.

That matters for tier lists: a weapon's value depends on its enchantments and artifacts, not just damage.

Capes, pets and codes

There is no universal list of working codes. The official Capes & Promos article splits rewards into sources:

• Hero Cape: play Minecraft Dungeons with the same Microsoft account, then log into Dungeons II before 31 December 2026. It also unlocks in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.
• Deluxe Edition: Soul Cape, Blub pet, four hero skins and DLC 1 and 2.
• Pre-order bonus: Twisted Cape, Twisted Chicken pet and two skins; no longer available through purchase.
• Event and promo capes: the Corrupted Creeper Cape appears at events, and the Aurora Cape is a Minecraft-only Twitch/TikTok reward with codes that expire on 31 October 2026.

Codes expire; redeem in-game or at minecraft.net/redeem, and verify the source before trusting a list.

Tier list overview

There is no official tier list, and the community meta is still moving. Build guides tend to sort by role: melee burst, ranged pressure, tank and sustain, and artifact or talisman utility. Judge a drop by its synergy with your enchants, your party size and the content you are running. A "best" item you cannot build around is worse than an average item that completes your setup.
