Aion 2: Getting Started & Best First Class

A first-session route for Aion 2's global PC launch: how to choose from the eight classes, what to do before your first dungeon, and where to spend early resources.

Verified for versionglobal-launch

Aion 2 gives you one permanent class choice and then asks you to learn a combat system where altitude matters as much as gear. This route covers the first session: pick a role, learn flight, and spend early resources on one path instead of five.

Choose a role, not a tier list

Class Role Main weapon
Templar Main tank Longsword and shield
Gladiator Melee damage / off-tank Greatsword
Assassin Melee burst damage Dagger
Ranger Ranged physical damage Bow
Sorcerer Ranged magic damage Spellbook
Spiritmaster Summoner Orb
Cleric Healer Mace
Chanter Support / damage Staff

If you want the safest group slot, start Templar or Cleric. If you want to learn the combat system without relying on a group, Sorcerer or Ranger gives you range to watch mechanics. Assassin and Gladiator are the melee picks; they ask more of your positioning, especially in the air.

First session, in order

  1. Finish the opening story and lock in your class. The choice is permanent, so pick the role you actually want to play.
  2. Practise flight immediately. Take off, fight a few open-world enemies in the air, and get used to altitude changes before a dungeon forces them on you.
  3. Follow the main quest until the first solo instance. It unlocks systems in the intended order and gives you a safe place to learn your skills.
  4. Run the solo instance twice. The first run is for mechanics; the second is for routing and cooldowns.
  5. Join a party for the first 5-player dungeon. Templar and Cleric are in demand; damage classes should queue with a healer they know.
  6. Spend early resources on one weapon and one gear path. Do not spread upgrade materials across every slot before you know which content you want to main.

What to ignore at first

  • Tier lists: they are snapshots of a live balance patch and rarely matter before endgame.
  • Cash-shop convenience: learn the free loop first; the store will still be there.
  • Every side activity: the main quest unlocks the systems you need; side content is better once your class has its core skills.

Aerial combat checklist

  • Keep the camera level when you climb; losing the horizon is how fights snowball against you.
  • Use altitude to disengage, not just to chase.
  • Fight near terrain when you can; it gives you a reset point if the air fight goes wrong.

FAQ

Which Aion 2 class should a new player pick?

Templar and Cleric are the safest group picks because they fill the tank and healer slots. Sorcerer or Ranger are easier to learn solo; Assassin and Gladiator need more positioning.

Is class choice permanent in Aion 2?

Yes. You pick a class during the opening and specialise into it; there is no free class swap.

When should I start doing dungeons in Aion 2?

Start with the solo instance as soon as it unlocks, then join 5-player parties once you know your core skills. Do not jump into 10-player content before you have a role you can perform reliably.
