Dragonkind Guide: How the Official Threshing Works

A Dragonkind guide to Rebecca Yarros' official Empyrean browser game: how the Threshing choices work, what the dragon result card shows, and the retry timer.

Verified for version1.0

Dragonkind is the free official interactive Empyrean experience from Rebecca Yarros, published by Yarros Ink, Inc. and playable in a browser at dragonkind.com. It launched on 1 October 2026, the in-world date of Threshing at Basgiath War College, and reportedly drew more than 500,000 players on its first day. It is a choose-your-own-adventure style Threshing, and it is not the companion book Threshing Day, which arrived on 29 September 2026.

Starting the Threshing

You sign up with an email and are greeted as "Welcome, Candidate." The game assigns you a wing, section and squad, then sends you into the Threshing Valley. The interface is point-and-click: you read a scene, choose an action, and move to the next scene. There is no download and no separate app; the same site works on a phone, tablet or laptop browser.

The opening choices establish how you approach the valley: whether to go alone or with squadmates, whether to help an injured cadet, how to react to sulfur, and how to approach the dragons you meet. The story is by Yarros, and the site was built by Infantree, with dragon art by Arancia Studio and background art by Andreas Rocha.

A bond or a death

The Threshing ends in one of two broad outcomes. A dragon bonds with you, or it kills you. Yarros has said there is roughly a 10% chance of incineration no matter what choices you make, so the experience is not a puzzle with one guaranteed solution. Community guides list patterns that seem to help with particular colors, but players report that the same choices can produce different results. Treat those tips as flavor and experimentation, not a cheat sheet.

A failed attempt triggers a retry timer. Readers widely report a four-minute countdown before the next attempt, which turns the game into a short daily ritual rather than a grind. If email delivery is slow, the site's own guidance is to wait and retry later rather than creating duplicate accounts.

Reading the dragon result card

A successful bond produces a result card. Reported fields include the dragon's name, tail type (swordtail or clubtail), sex, age, color and lineage. The card is the shareable payoff: it tells you which dragon chose you and gives the fandom a common vocabulary for comparing outcomes. Because the result is partly random, a guide route is not a guarantee.

What to do first

Sign up, play the first Threshing without trying to optimize it, and read the result card before looking up routes. If you die, use the retry window to review what you chose rather than immediately copying a guide. Type dragonkind.com directly instead of following lookalike links, and remember that Threshing Day is the book, while Dragonkind is the official game.
