Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Guides

Guide hub for Dragon Quest Monsters — the 3 December 2026 release, scouting and synthesis basics, online battles, and what the demo carries into the full game.

DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World is a monster-collecting RPG: you scout monsters into your team, raise and synthesise them, and take the resulting roster into turn-based battles. It arrives on PC on 3 December 2026, with the Digital Deluxe edition starting roughly two days early.

The loop: scout, raise, synthesise

Synthesis is the heart of the series, and it is what turns collecting into building: two monsters combine into something new, so the roster you field is the sum of your earlier decisions. Scouts are the raw material, and the ones you keep as breeding stock matter more than the ones you field immediately.

Battles are turn-based, teams are the unit

Fighting happens with your monster team rather than a single character, which puts the emphasis on coverage and roles rather than one hero's levels. Build for what your team cannot answer — that is the gap synthesis exists to close.

Online and tournaments

The store lists online battles and tournaments, with online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer among the features. Competitive play is where the synthesis system shows its depth: everyone is building the same way, so what separates players is what they chose to make.

Demo: play it, and keep the good ones

A free demo runs up to the Witherwood section and lets G- and F-rank monsters carry into the full game. That makes it the ideal place to practise scouting and synthesis before release, and to prepare a starting roster that has already been tested.

The starter route covers your first scouting decisions, when to synthesise rather than level, and what to bring out of the demo.
