Azeroth Survivors Guide: Classes & Battlegrounds

Azeroth Survivors is a free WoW fan roguelite by Aethus. This guide covers classes, battlegrounds, auto-cast combat, acts, meta progression and first-run tips.

Verified for version0.91.0

Azeroth Survivors is a free fan-made roguelite by Aethus that mixes World of Warcraft's 1.12.1-era classes and locations with the wave-survival loop of Vampire Survivors. It runs in a browser at wow.aethus.pl, with a Windows client also circulating, and it has spread through WoW communities in several languages. It is an unlicensed fan project: there is no evidence that Blizzard approved or endorses it.

The core loop

You create a character, choose a class and pick a zone or battleground. In the run, WASD moves your character while your abilities cast automatically. Enemies arrive in waves, and every couple of minutes a boss appears. Level-ups offer a choice of upgrade cards, colour-coded by WoW item quality, with the stat changes shown on the card. Surviving long enough pushes the run into later acts, where the screen gets busier and mistakes are punished harder.

Because attacking is automatic, your decisions are mostly about positioning, cooldown timing and card choices. The class movement spell, bound to F from level 5, is the main manual escape tool. Camera control is free, which helps in dense packs but also makes it easy to lose track of a boss.

Classes and battlegrounds

The character screen covers eight races and both genders, and the class roster follows the classic WoW nine: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid. Each class keeps its familiar identity, but the survivor format compresses the kit into a few auto-cast abilities plus a movement spell.

The map list is built around zones and battlegrounds rather than a single arena. Community documentation based on the game lists 16 zones, from starting areas to Naxxramas and the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj. Treat that count as a snapshot of the current build, not a permanent content promise.

Builds and meta progression

A first run should focus on one damage source and one survival tool. Spreading upgrade cards across every option usually leaves you with neither enough damage nor enough health. Bosses drop permanent items, and trait or upgrade XP earned during clears carries into later runs, so a failed run still advances your account. That meta progression is the reason to keep playing after a bad build.

Community reports describe the balance as uneven: some builds can coast through later acts while others stall. The developer has acknowledged that balance is a work in progress. For that reason, a class tier list is less useful than learning which cards stack cleanly with your chosen class.

First-run tips

Play in Chrome or another WebGPU-capable browser, keep moving through gaps in the wave, and save the movement spell for a boss or a surround. Pick cards that support your class's main damage type rather than the highest raw number. If the browser build stutters, try the Windows client. Expect bugs, and check the current patch before copying an old build guide.

Start here

Open wow.aethus.pl, pick a class you already understand from WoW, and run one zone. Learn the auto-cast rhythm first; the cards and meta upgrades will make more sense after a few complete runs.
